Jet fighter pilot observed an unknown object

The pilot of an English Gloster Meteor jet fighter observed an unknown object over the Gaydon airfield during the night from Saturday to Sunday. It flew at a height of about 8,500 meters and could, according to the pilot, only avoid a collision by a quick maneuver. The object had little speed. The pilot, D.W. Sweeney, could observe six lights.
When he turned his Gloster Meteor to approach the object again, the lights were extinguished and the unknown object had disappeared, according to the English "Sunday Express." The object was also detected on the radar screens of the airport stationed.
