Cosmic radiation experiments North Pole

The US Department of the Navy announced Thursday the execution of a series of experiments over the North Pole to study cosmic radiation. The recording device was located in missiles launched from giant balloons. The balloons were released from icebreakers, which were located near the North Pole. The balloons had a diameter equal to that of a ten story building. The rockets reached a height of 64 km and thus exceeded the magnetic field of the earth. Due to all sorts of difficulties, only a few registration devices were recovered.
