Aldrin explains South Atlantic Anomaly
How did Apollo pass through these deadly radiation belts.
During an event to mark 40 years of Apollo Buzz Aldrin explained why the ISS cannot go into a higher orbit [25m59s]. The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) is an area where the Earth's inner Van Allen radiation belt comes closest to the Earth's surface dipping down to an altitude of 200 km (Wikipedia).
How did the Apollo space craft ever crossed through the deadly radiation, that surrounds the earth, is never explained by NASA. The only thing NASA claims is that the Apollo spaceships did go through the belts very quickly and that is why the astronauts survived the trip through the belts. Obvious you would expect that NASA experimented with monkeys and other animals in space, to see how deadly the radiation was. they never released any results of those test. AwE130 expects that all animals died a horrible dead and NASA didn't release the result due to the fear of a public outrage.
